1) Arab on Radar- My Mind is a Muffler [Yahweh or the Highway L.P]
Fantastic art-noise-rock from this group of oddballs from Rhode Island. Sitting somewhere between Devo and Contortions, they really never made a bad record and three of the original members are now playing in a lineup as Doomsday Student. Easily one of the best "post-grunge" groups.

2) Broadcast and the Focus Group- Familiar Shapes and Noises E.P [Ghost Box records 7"]
Ultimately more rewarding that the still rather great LP they made together, 'Inside Out' shows a more groove orientated side which the collaboration perhaps could have explored if Trish wasn't so cruelly taken from us. Very much looking forward to the O.S.T for the Berberian Sound Studio film...

Stereophonic Sounds, Typophonic Sleeve....
What to say?! An album full of test tones for stereo playback systems! Exciting stuff! Ok... That may not sound exciting, but the sleeve is pretty hot stuff.
Released by Decca, possibly late in the late 1950s/early 1960s, it probably would have been a important tool for sound engineers during the period to check accurate playback for the then cutting edge and groundbreaking stereo playback systems.
The sleeve uses very economical and basic typographic elements to create what now looks a nice nod towards constructivist typographic experiments and modernism. No doubt the lack of fuss and flash is due to the fact that the album would have been a purely functional item; a tool rather than entertainment.
A mix of serif and sans serif fonts, solid black lines and a crude but appealing op-art esque design on the back form a bold if very simplistic design for an essentially unexciting record! I must say... I did buy this for the sleeve!
